Ottawa Valley man accused of shooting car to silence alarm

An Ottawa Valley man is accused of taking matters into his own hands to silence a car alarm that had been going off Wednesday night.

Ontario Provincial Police say officers were called to an address in Whitewater Region at around 11:45 p.m. after someone reported hearing a car alarm and gunshots.

It turned out the alarm had been going off for some time, and a man had shot at the unoccupied car in an attempt to silence it, causing significant damage to the vehicle.

No one was hurt.

The 49-year-old man who was arrested is charged with careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and mischief over $5,000. Police also seized three long guns.

OPP said the name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of victim as this incident involves neighbours.
