Ottawa OPP says impaired driver clocks 193 km/h on Hwy.417

An Ottawa driver is facing charges after being stopped for going nearly 100 km/h over the speed limit on Highway 417 Friday morning.

Police say the driver was stopped after clocking 193 km/h at 8 a.m. on the highway near Moodie Drive.

“Investigation revealed that the driver had been consuming alcohol, and they were taken back to the detachment for a breath test. The driver registered nearly three times the legal limit,” the OPP said in a news release Friday.

The 42-year-old man has been charged with dangerous operation, operation while impaired, mischief, stunt driving and improper use of High Occupancy Vehicle lane.

He’s also facing a 90-day licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment.

He’s scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
