Ontario Provincial Police say three drivers in Ottawa were stopped and charged with impaired driving in less than 12 hours between Thursday afternoon and early Friday morning. The first incident came from a resident calling police about a suspected impaired driver on Highway 7, Ottawa OPP Const. Michael Fathi said in a news release. The 38-year-old driver was found shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday and charged with impaired operation and driving with liquor readily available. During a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) check at the Anderson Road off-ramp from Highway 417, a 51-year-old driver was screened and charged with impaired operation just before 12:30 a.m. Friday. About 30 minutes later, police stopped a driver for speeding on Highway 417. The 50-year-old was charged with speeding, failure to identify self, failure to comply with a demand, and failure to have an insurance card. All three were given 90-day licence suspensions and their vehicles were impounded for seven days. “The OPP would like to thank those members of the public who continue to report impaired drivers. If you suspect someone is operating a vehicle of any kind while impaired, call 911,” Fathi said. Stunt driving charge also laid Police also charged a driver with stunt driving on Highway 417 near Terry Fox Drive. The driver was stopped at around 8:30 p.m. after police recorded the vehicle at 180 km/h. In addition to the stunt driving charge, the driver is also facing a dangerous driving charge. Their licence was suspended for 30 days, and their vehicle has been impounded for 14 days.
