OPP respond to several collisions involving ‘vehicles hydroplaning’ on Hwy. 417

Ontario Provincial Police are reminding drivers to slow down during heavy rain, following several collisions on Highway 417.

Emergency crews responded to reports of several collisions as a result of “vehicles hydroplaning” on the Queensway, according to OPP Const. Michael Fathi.

“There were several spots where water had built up due to the heavy rain, including near Palladium Drive,” Fathi said.

Only minor injuries have been reported so far.

A spokesperson for the Ottawa Paramedic Service tells CTV News Ottawa a vehicle struck the guardrail on Highway 417 near Palladium, then hit another vehicle.

Two lanes of the eastbound lanes of Hwy. 417 at Palladium Drive were temporarily closed due to the collision.

Environment Canada is calling for Ottawa to receive 10 to 20 mm of rain today.
