OPP charge driver for hauling 100-foot oversized load of logs near Pembroke

A driver and a company are facing multiple charges after Ontario Provincial Police stopped a commercial vehicle carrying an unsafe, oversized load of logs near Pembroke on Monday.

OPP say they responded to reports of the oversized load on Paul Martin Drive in the Laurentian Valley Township shortly before 6 p.m.

Officers found that the size of the truck and the log load totalled 31.39 metres, or 103 feet.

According to a media release from police, police and Ministry of Transportation officers determined the load was unsafe due to “excessive length, improper load securement and the absence of required lighting to mark the rear of the load.”

OPP say a 29-year-old from Earlton, Ont., is facing multiple charges, including failing to mark an overhanging load on a commercial motor vehicle, failing to carry a complete daily inspection report and operating an insecure load.

The company that owned the vehicle is also facing multiple charges, including overlength combination of vehicles and failing to equip a commercial motor vehicle with an Electronic Logging Device information package.
