The City of Ottawa is providing a look at the construction of the new 5,850 seat arena at Lansdowne Park, 10 months after construction began as part of the Lansdowne 2.0 project. In its September update on the project, the city says crews spent the summer completing “key Event Centre elements” to form the base of the new arena. “In August, utility work continued near the eastern edge of the South Side Stands. This work will connect existing utilities such as water and sewer to the future Event Centre and is expected to conclude in September,” the update said. “Foundation work continued within the Event Centre. The future ice pad of the Event Centre has been backfilled with gravel.” As part of work to build the base of the concourse of the Event Centre, specialized concrete pump trucks poured concrete throughout various areas of the building in August, according to the city. “The final quadrant is being excavated and will allow for the loading dock to be integrated into the future Event Centre.” According to the monthly update, the base of the structure will soon be ready for the installation of the steel structure to support the stands. The $418.8 million Lansdowne 2.0 project includes the new Event Centre, a new north side stands at TD Place and two residential towers with 770 units. The new Event Centre will have 5,850 seats, with capacity of 6,600 for hockey and up to 7,000 people for concerts. Construction on the project began last December. The new arena is scheduled to be completed in 2028. The city says the work in September will include constructing the loading dock on the northern edge of the site. “As the support walls are constructed, a trench will be excavated that will serve as the future loading dock. As loading dock work advances, crews will continue to build out the final corner of the Event Centre,” the city said. “Concrete pouring will continue in September to finalize the base of the Event Centre. This will prepare the site for the installation of the steel structure this fall.”
