Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are being warned to expect delays at a busy downtown Ottawa intersection until the end of the year as construction work continues at the corner near Ottawa City Hall. Beginning on Friday, one southbound lane on Elgin Street and one eastbound shared through and right-turn lane on Laurier Avenue will be closed for construction. The City of Ottawa says Hydro Ottawa crews are reconstructing a maintenance hole near the intersection of Elgin Street and Laurier Avenue. “To help minimize disruptions in the area, traffic management is being coordinated with the nearby Laurier Avenue Cycling Modifications project and other planned activities in the downtown core,” the city said. Here is a look at the traffic impacts during the construction: The city says the Hydro Ottawa construction work will continue until late December. Construction has been underway on changes to Laurier Avenue near Elgin Street since late March. The $7.2 million project includes converting the westbound bike lane between Queen Elizabeth Driveway and Elgin Street to a raised cycle track and protected crossings at the intersection.
