Musicians in the NAC Orchestra have voted in favour of a strike action, the musicians’ union says. In a statement to CTV News Ottawa, a spokesperson for the Musicians’ Association of Ottawa-Gatineau said the vote was unanimous, but the union is still engaged in negotiations with the NAC. “We want to reach a fair and equitable agreement with the NAC, and the Local believes that is possible,” Robin Moir, the Secretary-Treasurer of the association, said in a statement. Moir says the union and the NAC will meet again in mid-October. The Musicians’ Association of Ottawa-Gatineau is a local of the Canadian Federation of Musicians and represents the 61 musicians in the orchestra. In a statement to CTV News, a spokesperson for the NAC said negotiations to renew the collective agreement with the NAC Orchestra are ongoing. “Both parties remain at the bargaining table and continue to negotiate in good faith,” Noah Richardson, communications strategist with the NAC, said. “In the meantime, NAC Orchestra concerts and programming continue as usual, and we remain hopeful that the parties will reach an agreement.”
