The Department of National Defence (DND) is advising members of the public that military training exercises will be taking place near the Ottawa International Airport this week and in mid-November. Members of the local Canadian Army unit 30 Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery (RCA) will conduct training on Department of National Defence property near the airport from Thursday to Sunday and from Nov. 13 to 15, DND says. “No ammunition of any kind will be present. Members of the public may see Canadian Army members in uniform with unloaded weapons and military vehicles towing the unit’s C3 105 mm Howitzers (artillery cannons),” a news release said. DND says the training will give soldiers practice ahead of later activities at Canadian Armed Forces bases and ranges that involve live ammunition. “All measures are being taken to ensure minimum inconvenience in these areas during the exercise dates, and members of the public are asked to take extra caution when approaching military vehicles and are thanked in advance for their understanding and co-operation,” DND says.
