Ottawa police say a man was arrested after wielding a gun in the ByWard Market area early Friday morning. In a statement on social media, police said officers were in the area for an unrelated investigation when they spotted a man holding a gun and “making concerning statements” just before 2 a.m. Police say the incident occurred on Rideau Street near Cumberland Street. Responding officers arrested the man who attempted to flee the area. Police say the firearm was recovered and there were no injuries. In a statement to CTV News, Ottawa police said the man is facing multiple charges, including careless use and pointing of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded restricted firearm, possession of property obtained by crime, breach of a firearms prohibition order and breach of probation.
