Kingston Police are warning of a scam that involves people posing as food delivery drivers and customers to obtain bank cards and PINs from the public. According to Kingston Police, there have been several reported incidents where individuals were approached by a person posing as a customer who cannot pay for their food delivery. The customer then asks for help paying for their food in exchange for cash. When the victim puts their bank card into the payment machine, the card is exchanged with another, and the card’s PIN is recorded. Afterwards, the victim’s card is used to make cash withdrawals, deposits bad cheques and complete purchases. “Police are reminding residents that you should never give your bank card or PIN to another person or enter your PIN into a payment terminal when you are unsure who is operating the transaction,” Kingston Police said in a news release. Police say the public should be cautious of the following warning signs: “If someone asks you to pay for their food or another purchase using your debit or credit card in exchange for cash, consider declining the request,” police said. “A legitimate delivery driver should not require you to provide your banking information or PIN to facilitate another person’s purchase.” Kingston police say those who believe their bank card may have been compromised should do the following:
