A Kanata man is one of the first Canadians to win a new lottery prize after Lotto Max made changes last month. The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) said Maurice B., a 63-year-old retiree, won a $100,000 “MaxPlus” prize in the April 24 Lotto Max draw. “I feel ecstatic. I’ll enjoy my retirement even more now,” Maurice said, in a news release from OLG. OLG says Maurice is an “occasional” player and used the OLG app to check his ticket. “When I discovered the win, I was frozen,” he said. “I just couldn’t believe it.” The winning ticket was purchased at Rexall on March Road in Kanata. The Lotto Max lottery made changes in April. Tickets cost $1 more, there are more lines per play, and slightly improved overall odds of winning a prize, such as the $100,000 “MaxPlus” prizes that are tied to the jackpot total. OLG also said earlier this month it was no longer sharing the surnames of lottery winners in news releases. The odds of winning the jackpot are around one in 33.4 million.
