Ontario Provincial Police say the driver of a tractor trailer was taken to hospital as a precaution following a crash in Renfrew on Wednesday. The tractor trailer crashed near the Bonnechere River Bridge on Highway 17 at around 1:45 p.m. No other vehicles were involved. In an email to CTV News Ottawa, the OPP said the crash resulted in both rear axles separating from the trailer and an oil spill. Fire crews are on scene working to contain and stop the flow of oil, police said. The amount of oil released is currently being assessed. OPP say the Ministry of the Environment has been notified and is engaged. Police said crews at the scene are waiting for a tow truck to arrive to remove the tractor trailer. Highway 17 was closed in both directions between Bruce Street and Highway 60 on Wednesday, but reopened early Thursday morning. Police said the Ministry of Transportation will be assessing the integrity of the bridge prior to the highway reopening.
