Rental rates dropped slightly in Ottawa in July, as renters found declining rents in markets across Canada. The new national rent report for Rentals.ca and Urbanation shows the average rent in Ottawa was $2,164 in July, down $15 from the average rent in June. A one-bedroom apartment rented for an average of $1,960 in Ottawa last month, compared to $1,956 in June, while a two-bedroom apartment rented for an average of $2,449 in July compared to $2,462 in June. In Kanata, the average rent was $2,514 in July, down from $2,551 in June. The report shows a one-bedroom apartment in the Ottawa suburb cost $2,230 in July, down from $2,282 in June, while a two-bedroom dropped $7 to an average of $2,578. Across Canada, the average rent dropped four per cent to $2,037 in July. Rentals.ca and Urbanation says it was the 22nd consecutive month with a drop in rental rates. North Vancouver has the highest average rent in Canada at $3,039, followed by Vancouver at $2,686 and Toronto at $2,580. The average asking rent in Kingston was $2,100 in July, down from $2,111 in June. The report shows the average price of a one-bedroom apartment was $1,827 in Kingston, while a two-bedroom cost $2,271. In Gatineau, the average rent was $1,775 in July, down from $1,781 in June. The average cost of a one-bedroom apartment was $1,592 a month in Gatineau last month.
