Capital Pride has announced that Brianne Jenner, the former Ottawa Charge captain, will be leading the Capital Pride Parade this August. Jenner, originally from Oakville, Ont., wore the “C” for the Charge since the launch of the Professional Women’s Hockey League, but was signed by the new expansion team in Hamilton this off-season. She is a four-time Olympic medallist in women’s hockey, winning two gold medals and two silver medals. In a post on Facebook on Friday, Capital Pride said Jenner won the draw to be the parade’s Grand Marshal. “A decorated Olympian, world champion, and trailblazer in women’s hockey, Brianne has inspired fans on and off the ice throughout her incredible career. From Olympic gold to helping shape the future of professional women’s hockey, her leadership, resilience, and commitment to community make her the perfect person to lead this year’s Parade,” Capital Pride said. Jenner married her longtime partner and former Cornell University teammate Hayleigh Cudmore in 2019. They have three children. The Capital Pride Parade is held in late August to honour the 1971 We Demand Rally, the first-ever protest in Canada advocating for LGBT rights. This year’s Capital Pride Parade will be held on Aug. 30 at 1 p.m.
