A 33-year-old driver stopped for speeding 77 km/h over the speed limit in western Quebec was also fined $500 for insulting the police officer. The MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais police say a driver was observed going 167 km/h on Route 309 in L’Ange-Gardien on Saturday afternoon. “At the time of his interception, his two children, aged 1 and 4, were sitting in the vehicle,” police said. The speed limit is 90 km/h on Route 309. The driver is facing a total of $3,658 in fines, including a $1,493 fine and 14 demerit points for speeding, a 1,543 fine for driving at a speed “likely to endanger the lives or safety of others” and a $522 fine for insulting a peace officer. “Excessive speed remains one of the main causes of serious collisions on our road network,” police said. “Every driver is responsible for their choices behind the wheel.”
