A driver is facing several charges after being observed speeding in the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane on Highway 417 in Ottawa’s west end. Ontario Provincial Police say a driver was observed speeding 162 km/h on Highway 417 near Terry Fox Drive shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday. “The driver was also travelling alone in their vehicle while driving in the HOV lane,” OPP Const. Michael Fathi said. The driver is facing a charge of stunt driving, which includes a 30-day licence suspension and the vehicle impounded for 14 days. The driver faces a minimum $2,000 fine and six demerit points upon conviction. “The driver received several other charges including one for having open cannabis in a vehicle,” Fathi said.
