Driver, 62, caught going 166 km/h on Ottawa highway

A 62-year-old driver going 66 km/h over the speed limit was one of two drivers charged with stunt driving on Ottawa roads this weekend.

The Ottawa Police Service’s Traffic Escort and Enforcement Unit says an officer observed a driver going 166 km/h on Highway 174 on Saturday.

“Flyin’ by vehicles in the right lane while doing 66 km/h over the posted speed limit (100km) on the 174 will draw our attention…especially if one of those vehicles is an unmarked OPS Traffic Unit vehicle,” police said on X.

The 62-year-old driver was charged with stunt driving.

Meantime, police say a 24-year-old driver was spotted going 153 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Highway 174 Saturday morning.

“Nothing ruins a beautiful morning like doing 73 km/h over the posted speed limit past an OPS Traffic Escort Unit officer,” police said on X.

Both drivers are facing a charge of stunt driving, which includes a 30-day licence suspension and the vehicle impounded for 14 days.

Meantime, a driver received a speeding ticket after being observed going 35 km/h over the speed limit on Frank Kenny Road. The speed limit is 80 km/h.
