The Township of Edwardsburgh/Cardinal says several municipal facilities are closed after being vandalized early on Thursday. According to a news release from the township, the Waterfront Canteen and public washrooms were broken into and “significantly vandalized” early in the morning. “Significant damage was sustained to both the men’s and women’s washrooms, a canteen window, and several recently installed security cameras,” the township said. The washrooms will remain temporarily unavailable due to the damage, but portable washroom facilities have been arranged. The upcoming Cardinal Labor Fest will be unaffected, the township says. “The Township is extremely disappointed by this senseless damage to community facilities. These spaces are provided for the enjoyment of residents and visitors, and acts of vandalism ultimately result in costs and disruption for the entire community,” the township’s statement reads. Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Erin Cranton says police are investigating. The township says anyone with information regarding the incidents should contact police. Last week, two park facilities were set on fire and a third was vandalized in nearby South Dundas.
