Firefighters are battling a brush fire in the Ottawa Valley, as the dry conditions continue in eastern Ontario this summer.

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources says a fire approximately 1.9 hectares is burning 2.5 kilometres northeast of Cloudy Lake and three kilometres north of Highway 60.

“The fire is not under control,” Evan Lizotte, Fire Information Officer, told CTV News Ottawa in a statement on Tuesday.

“There are three Fire Ranger crews responding to this fire. Helicopter bucketing operations were utilized.”

The fire, located near Wilno and Barry’s Bay, was reported just after 2 p.m. Monday.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

In a post on Facebook, the Township of Madawaska Valley says the Ministry of Natural Resources has advised the fire is “no longer spreading” and is “getting close to being under control.”

“There is no risk to structures or the public at this time,” the municipality said.

The Township of Madawaska Valley is currently under a total fire ban. Including no campfires or fireworks.

The Ministry of Natural Resources lists the forest fire danger as “High” in Renfrew, Bancroft, Barry’s Bay, Wilno and Eganville areas, and “moderate” in the Pembroke and Petawawa areas.
