Alexandra Bridge will be closed to vehicles this weekend

The Alexandra Bridge will be closed to vehicles this weekend for its annual spring cleaning.

Public Services and Procurement Canada announced the interprovincial bridge connecting Ottawa and Gatineau will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. on Monday.

“As part of this maintenance work, the bridge will be temporarily closed to allow for its annual spring cleaning,” the government said.

“This measure is intended to ensure the safety of users and to allow the work to be completed safely.”

The bridge will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists all weekend.

The National Capital Commission and Public Services and Procurement Canada are planning to replace the aging Alexandra Bridge. Construction is planned to begin in 2028 and is expected to last until 2032.

The Alexandra Bridge first opened in 1900.
