A boil water advisory that affected tens of thousands of Gatineau residents has been lifted. Approximately 45,000 residents were under a boil water advisory since Friday following a water main break on rue Saint-Louis. In a news release Sunday evening, the City of Gatineau said residents may now safely consume water, but should turn on all taps and let the water run for about one minute before using it. Any ice made during the advisory should be discarded. Earlier in the day, the city said residents in Gatineau, Hull and Aylmer should reduce their water consumption, especially during peak demand hours in the morning and evening. The city says residents should continue to preserve water as repairs of the water main continue. Repairs continue In an update on Sunday, the City of Gatineau said Rue Saint-Louis will remained closed into the week as road restoration and water main repairs continue. The road will be closed between Boulevard de la Cité and Boulevard Maloney Ouest until further notice, the city says. “Motorists are advised to follow posted signage and plan their travel accordingly,” the city wrote. The approximate area affected by the boil water advisory spanned from rue Saint-Louis east to rue Main, and from the Ottawa River up to boulevard la Vérendrye Ouest.
