A $21 million settlement has been approved in a class-action lawsuit against a former Ottawa doctor convicted of sexually assaulting patients. The firm Flaherty McCarthy LLP told CTV News Ottawa an Ontario Superior Court of Justice approved the settlement on Monday in the lawsuit against Dr. Vincent Nadon, the University of Ottawa and the University of Ottawa Health Services. A proposed settlement was reached in May. “The approval of this settlement is not just a legal milestone — it is a recognition of the strength and courage of those who came forward,” Sean Brown, lead counsel at Flaherty McCarthy LLP, said in a statement. “For years, survivors carried the weight of these experiences in silence. This process has been about ensuring that their voices are heard, their dignity is restored, and that they are supported in moving forward. This result also represents accountability. It ensures that the institutions involved are held responsible and that survivors receive recognition of the profound impact this misconduct has had on their lives.” Nadon pleaded guilty in 2018 to 14 sexual assault and voyeurism charges involving 49 patients. He was sentenced to seven years in prison. The class action was initially launched in 2018 against Nadon, the University of Ottawa and the clinic where the doctor worked. Flaherty McCarthy LLP said the claims process is expected to begin on Jan. 15, 2026, and will run for 180 days.
