Vehicle with expired permit, no insurance pulled over twice, Barrie duo facing multiple charges

A man, 36, and woman, 40, both from Barrie, are facing a slew of charges after getting stopped by police twice for allegedly driving without a valid permit in an uninsured vehicle.

While South Simcoe police were on patrol in Bradford early Wednesday morning, they pulled over a vehicle driving from County Road 88 onto Highway 400. They say the driver of the vehicle turned out to have an expired 10-day permit that was several months overdue.

The driver was a man who was allegedly driving with a G1 licence and contravening G1 driving conditions by not being accompanied by a qualified driver and driving on a 400-series highway.

Police say the vehicle was also uninsured and the driver couldn’t provide a valid permit.

Despite being pulled over, a couple of hours later at around 9:40 a.m., officers say they spotted the same vehicle in a different location at 10 Sideroad and County Road 89 in Innisfil.

This time, police say the driver of the vehicle was a woman and the passenger was the man from the earlier incident. Officers say the vehicle was still uninsured and the same expired permit was displayed.

Police seized the licence plates and had the vehicle towed from the road.

The pair are facing nine insurance and permit-related charges including driving a vehicle without a valid permit, driving on a prohibited highway and unaccompanied by a qualified driver with a G1 licence, and operating a vehicle without insurance.
