Warrant issued for Sudbury-area assault suspect

Police in Greater Sudbury are seeking the public’s help to locate a 31-year-old man wanted on multiple charges after an assault early this week left a 44-year-old man in critical condition.

According to the Greater Sudbury Police Service, Deondrae Edie is now the subject of an arrest warrant for aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, obstructing a peace officer, resisting a peace officer and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Altercation on Maurice Street

Police said that on July 7, officers responded to a report of “unknown trouble” at a residence on Maurice Street in the community of Hanmer following an altercation that left the 44-year-old man with serious injuries. Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services transported the victim to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

“The individual believed to be responsible for the assault fled the area prior to police arrival,” police said in a news release Wednesday.

Provide fake ID, fled

Based on information provided by witnesses, police said officers located an individual matching the description on Ralph Street – but when approached by police, the individual provided false identification before fleeing on foot.

Officers conducted a canine track and ground search of the area; however, the individual was not located.

“As a result of the investigation, the individual believed to be involved has been identified as Deondrae Edie, and an arrest warrant has been issued through the judicial process,” police said.
