Two-year-old boy dies from injuries in Sault collision

Two people who were seriously injured in a crash last week in the Sault have succumbed to their injuries, including a two-year-old boy.

A two-year-old boy has died from injuries he sustained in a Jan. 7 crash in Sault Ste. Marie.

The child was a passenger in an SUV that was hit head-on by another SUV that had crossed into the wrong lane. The 43-year-old driver in the other SUV also died from their injuries, Sault police said in a news release Thursday.

The collision took place in the area of Black Road and Second Line East. The SUV in which the child was in was then struck by another SUV travelling behind it.

“The 38-year-old driver, two-year-old passenger and infant passenger of the first SUV were also transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries,” police said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family and has raised almost $190,000 as of Thursday afternoon.

The driver was the child’s mother. She was seven months pregnant and delivered a girl prematurely, the fundraising page said.

She was rushed to hospital in Toronto with her young son, where he died of his injuries. She remains in hospital with serious injuries.
