Fire officials say a garage fire in Timmins on Tuesday morning has been deemed suspicious and have asked city police to investigate. The fire broke out on James Street, with two fire stations responding around 6:54 a.m. on Sept. 15. Flames spread to nearby fences and trees. “Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, preventing further spread and damage to adjacent property,” the city said in a new release Tuesday afternoon. “The fire was under control by 7:12 a.m. Timmins Fire Department investigators attended the scene to determine a cause. Following initial investigation, the circumstances were determined to be suspicious and Timmins Police Service was contacted to assist with the investigation.” Officials reminded residents to ensure each level of every home has working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, as well as outside sleeping areas. “Have a home escape plan and practice it regularly with everyone in the household,” the release said.
