Police said officers began the investigation in August, in response to reports of drug trafficking. “Through the investigation, two suspects were identified,” said police in a news release. Two suspects taken into custody On Sept. 3 at about 7:40 p.m., officers located a suspect in the Limbrick Street and Vale Avenue area and took him into custody. Officers said a search of the suspect led to the seizure of suspected cocaine, fentanyl and cash. Soon after, at around 8:10 p.m., police located the second suspect in the Victoria Avenue and Oakwood Avenue area and took him into custody as well. According to the release, the search of the second suspect also led to the seizure of suspected fentanyl and cash. Cash, drugs and weapons Police said a total of more than 30 grams of suspected fentanyl and 110 grams of suspected cocaine were seized, alongside a large fixed-blade knife and more than $4,000 in cash. “The total estimated street value of the drugs seized is over $17,280,” said police. “The investigation into the matter remains ongoing,” added police. Charges laid As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old man and a 39-year-old man, both from Thunder Bay, were each charged with two drug trafficking offences and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime. The 38-year-old is also charged with carrying a concealed weapon and failing to comply with a probation order, while the 39-year-old is also charged with possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order. Both of the accused were remanded into custody following their first court appearance.
