Three charged after Thunder Bay drug seizure worth $488K

A drug trafficking investigation by the Thunder Bay Police Service has resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of a large quantity of suspected cocaine and fentanyl, along with cash and a loaded handgun.

The investigation culminated on Tuesday, when officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Golf Links Road.

Cash, drugs, weapons seized

“During the search, three individuals in the home were arrested, and suspected cocaine, fentanyl, a loaded handgun, and more than $19,000 in cash were seized,” police said in a news release.

Police said the search led to the discovery of over 3.36 kilograms of suspected cocaine and 285 grams of suspected fentanyl. The combined estimated street value of the drugs is more than $488,000.

Charges laid

As a result of the investigation, a 40-year-old woman, a 48-year-old man and a 23-year-old man, all from Thunder Bay, have each been charged with multiple offences.

All three face charges of unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of property obtained by crime, being unlawfully in a dwelling house, two counts of drug trafficking and two other firearm-related offences.

The 48-year-old man also faces five additional charges for possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, police said. The 23-year-old man faces one additional charge for failing to comply with a release order.

All of the accused remain in custody with a future court date.
