A 56-year-old man faces theft, dangerous operation and drug possession charges following an incident last week in Sault Ste. Marie. Around 1:15 p.m. on Oct. 2, 911 operators received a report of a theft from a business in the 0-100 block of Great Northern Road. Police said officers located the vehicle the suspect had reportedly driven away from the scene and conducted a traffic stop. “Upon speaking with the driver, identified as the accused, officers observed the stolen items inside the vehicle,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release. Man arrested, items seized The man was taken into custody. Police said upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered the stolen items and located about 2.74 grams of suspected cocaine. “Further investigation also revealed the accused had driven the vehicle through a parking lot with its doors open and struck another vehicle,” said police. Charges laid As a result, the man was charged with theft, dangerous operation and drug possession. The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 4.
