Suspect tried to kill their partner by ramming them with a vehicle: North Bay police

In a case of intimate partner violence, North Bay police say a suspect tried to kill their partner by ramming them with their vehicle in the area of Worthington Street East.

The incident took place Oct. 16 following an “altercation” between them, police said. No information about the suspect has been released, including their age, gender or name.

“The collision followed an altercation between the accused and the victim, during which the victim was allegedly struck by the vehicle,” police said in a news release Monday.

Life-threatening injuries

“The victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The accused was located, arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.”

Charges include attempted murder, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, assault, assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

“Incidents of intimate partner violence can be extremely volatile and can quickly escalate into dangerous, even life-threatening situations, as this incident demonstrates,” Insp. Scott McFarlane is quoted as saying in the release.

“Our patrol officers and … investigators are committed to holding those responsible for such violence accountable and ensuring victims receive the protection and support they need.”
