The Sudbury Wolves hockey club has issued a public warning to its fans about a phishing email scam that is impersonating the organization in an attempt to steal sensitive information. In a letter to fans on Saturday, the Ontario Hockey League team stated it became aware of the fraudulent activity and moved to alert its community. “It has come to our attention that a phishing email scam is currently circulating, attempting to impersonate the Sudbury Wolves organization, team members, or staff,” the letter reads. The organization emphasized that these emails often appear legitimate and may ask for personal details, passwords or financial credentials. Team apologizes for ‘criminal activity’ The Wolves were explicit in stating they are not the source of the deceptive emails and apologized for the impact on their supporters. “We want to be absolutely clear: The Sudbury Wolves organization is not responsible for sending these scam emails, and we sincerely apologize for any confusion, alarm, or inconvenience this criminal activity has caused you,” the organization said. The team advised fans to be vigilant and provided tips to avoid falling victim to the scam. They instructed recipients not to click on any links or open any attachments in suspicious emails and to never reply to the sender or share sensitive information. How to verify official communications To help fans distinguish legitimate communications from fraud, the Wolves organization confirmed that their official emails will only come from domains ending in @sudburywolves.com or @swse.ca. The team also warned fans to watch for slight misspellings or unusual domain names used by the scammers and recommended immediately deleting any email they suspect is part of the scam. The organization said it is actively investigating the matter and encouraged fans with questions about an email’s legitimacy to contact the team directly through its official website or by calling its main office at (705)-675-7973.
