Police in Greater Sudbury say 15 drivers were taken off the road in the last three days for impaired driving-related offences. The drivers were caught either through complaints from the public, traffic stops, collisions or targeted enforcement, police said in a news release Aug. 31. “Throughout the weekend, officers investigated multiple reports of suspected impaired driving across Greater Sudbury,” police said. “These investigations resulted in a combination of Criminal Code charges, Highway Traffic Act offences, and licence suspensions involving motorists stopped during (RIDE) spot checks, proactive enforcement efforts, traffic complaint investigations, and calls for service.” 10 drivers in the ‘warn’ range Ten drivers had their licences suspended for a week after registering a blood-alcohol reading in the warning range, the release said. “Several drivers faced additional charges related to offences including driving while suspended, failing to comply with probation or release conditions, operating a vehicle without insurance and permit-related violations,” police said. “Five drivers were charged with impaired driving-related Criminal Code offences, including impaired operation and failure to comply with a demand. Two impaired driving investigations also resulted in drug-related charges.” A youth driving a motorcycle was charged with 17 offences, including impaired driving and stunt driving, as well as breaching release conditions. “Reports from community members continue to play a critical role in identifying and removing impaired drivers from our roads,” police said. “Anyone who suspects a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs is encouraged to call 911 immediately.”
