Sudbury police play key role in IDing southern Ont. vice-principal charged with child luring

A vice-principal working at the Waterloo Catholic District School Board has been charged with crimes involving child sexual abuse material, in part thanks to work done by police in Greater Sudbury.

Police spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn told CTV News on Friday that the service’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit identified the 50-year-old suspect and worked with police in Waterloo and Toronto on the arrest of the 50-year-old man.

The man, who is from Cambridge, was arrested Feb. 13 following an investigation by Sudbury police, the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Cybercrime – Internet Child Exploitation Unit, in partnership with the Greater Sudbury Police Service’s ICE Unit, with help from the Toronto Police Service.

Students not among victims

“The Waterloo Catholic District School Board, where (the suspect) is employed as a vice-principal, has been notified of his arrest,” Sudbury police said in a news release Feb. 13.

“The offences … do not relate to any Waterloo Catholic District School Board students.”

Charges include possession and making child sexual assault and exploitation material, distribution of that material and making sexually explicit material available to a child.

He is also charged with invitation to sexual touching and luring a child under age 16.
