The Greater Sudbury Police Service says officers arrested seven drivers on impaired-related charges between Friday and Sunday through proactive patrols, traffic stops, response to complaints, collision investigations and targeted enforcement. “Over the course of the weekend, officers investigated several reports of suspected impaired driving across Greater Sudbury,” the police service said in a news release Tuesday. “These investigations resulted in seven drivers being removed from local roadways.” Collision investigation A 20-year-old woman was arrested following a collision investigation in the South End. Police said in addition to impaired driving offences, she was charged with operating without a qualified accompanying driver, having a blood alcohol concentration above zero as a novice driver, failing to surrender her licence and taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent. Leaving licensed venue A 32-year-old woman was arrested after police said officers observed a vehicle leaving a licensed establishment. She was charged with impaired driving, driving while prohibited, operating without a required ignition interlock device, driving as a novice with alcohol in her system and operating an uninsured vehicle. Opened container in Hanmer A 62-year-old man was arrested during a traffic stop in Hanmer. He was charged with impaired operation and driving with an open container of liquor. Traffic complaint A 20-year-old man was arrested after police said officers responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver. Police said an investigation revealed he was impaired, suspended from driving and had contravened novice and young driver alcohol restrictions. Downtown complaint A 36-year-old driver was stopped following a report of “a suspected impaired driver in the downtown core.” Police said the driver registered a blood alcohol concentration within the warn range and received a seven-day licence suspension. Erratic driving reports A 46-year-old man was arrested after multiple members of the public reported a vehicle being driven erratically and crossing into oncoming traffic. He was charged with impaired operation and dangerous operation. East End stop According to local police, a 53-year-old woman was arrested following a report of a suspected impaired driver in Sudbury’s East End. Police said investigators determined she was prohibited from driving under the Criminal Code, driving while suspended, operating an uninsured vehicle and using licence plates not authorized for the vehicle. Additional penalties “Every driver charged with impaired operation over 80 or deemed impaired following a drug recognition expert evaluation received an immediate 90-day driver’s licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment,” police said. The service said it remains committed to reducing impaired driving through proactive patrols, RIDE checks, traffic enforcement initiatives and responsive investigations. “Officers continue to rely on the assistance of community members who report suspected impaired drivers,” police said. “If you suspect an impaired driver, call 911 immediately.” “Drive safe.
