Police in Greater Sudbury have charged a 31-year-old local man with numerous offences after he failed to remain at the scene of a crash on Thursday. Just after 2 p.m. on Aug. 27, officers responded to a collision near Bancroft Drive where they learned a pickup truck struck another vehicle before fleeing the scene, the Greater Sudbury Police Service said in a news release Friday. Police said officers located the truck involved about an hour later. “Through the investigation, officers identified the driver and determined he was suspended from driving and wanted on 19 charges of theft under $5,000,” said police. “Officers also determined that the driver was impaired.” The man was charged with impaired driving, failure to stop after an accident, failure to remain, 19 counts of theft under $5,000, driving while under suspension, careless driving, driving without a permit and failing to surrender an insurance card. In addition to the charges, as a result of the impaired driving investigation, the man’s driver’s licence was suspended for an additional 90 days and the vehicle he was driving was impounded for seven days. Police said the man remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
