Two people were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation after a residential fire broke out in a basement on Elm Street West on Thursday afternoon, Greater Sudbury Fire Services Chief Rob Grimwood told CTV News. Fire under investigation Grimwood said the call came in at 1:40 p.m. and that the blaze started in the basement of the home. The chief said the cause is under investigation but is not believed to be suspicious. Road temporarily closed Greater Sudbury Fire Services announced the fire in a social media post shortly before 3:30 p.m. “Fire crews and paramedics are on scene,” the post on X read. Elm Street was closed near Ethelbert while crews battled the blaze. According to Grimwood, five fire trucks responded to the incident and two people were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation, though their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
