A 31-year-old suspect in Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with 20 counts of theft under $5,000 for incidents that occurred between Feb. 13 and May 19. The arrest by the bail compliance unit took place May 27, Sault police said in a news release. “Investigations by officers with patrol services revealed that on 20 different occasions … the accused stole property from six different businesses,” police said May 28. “The total value of property stolen was more than $4,600.” The suspect initially gave police a false name when arrested. Charges include obstructing police, 20 counts of theft, failing to attend court, failing to attend to give fingerprints, failing to comply with an appearance notice and failing to attend court. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
