Police in Sault Ste. Marie charged a 31-year-old-man June 19 with several offences after they discovered someone asleep at the wheel with drugs in the running vehicle in the 200 block of Second Line West. “Officers located the vehicle with the driver asleep inside and observed drug paraphernalia within reach of the driver. Upon speaking with the driver, officers developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs,” police said in a news release June 23. “During their arrest, the driver physically resisted officers and was later evaluated by a drug recognition expert who determined the man was impaired by drug.” Police said officers located a small quantity of suspected fentanyl, cocaine, cash and drug paraphernalia. The man is charged with impaired driving, drug trafficking and resisting arrest, police said. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 10.
