A 44-year-old man faces multiple charges following a series of incidents in Sault Ste. Marie on Sunday morning that local police say began with a threatening approach and ended with a building break-in. Police said officers responded to the 200 block of Central Street shortly after 8 a.m. on Aug. 30 following a 911 call about an unknown person damaging a residence and a vehicle. “As officers were on their way to the scene, 911 communicators received additional reports of the suspect breaking into a building in the 600 block of Wallace Terrace,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release on Tuesday. Police added the suspect was located inside the Wallace Terrace building and taken into custody. Threatening approach preceded damages Police said investigators determined the accused had approached a victim, who is not known to them, in a threatening manner. “Once the victim retreated inside their residence, the accused caused significant damage to the victim’s residence, vehicle, and other property,” police said. According to investigators, the accused then left that scene and broke into the building on Wallace Terrace. Police said no physical injuries were reported. Multiple charges laid The accused is charged with breaking-and-entering with intent to commit an indictable offence, mischief over $5,000 and criminal harassment. The man was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 16.
