Fire crews responded to an industrial fire in the west end of Sault Ste. Marie on Friday afternoon, with officials confirming the blaze was caused by mechanical failure. The Sault Ste. Marie Fire Service was called to the 500 block of Wallace Terrace shortly after 4 p.m. on August 15, where crews contained and extinguished the fire at an industrial occupancy. “The cause of the fire was determined to be a mechanical failure,” said Aaron Gravelle, the city’s public education officer, in a news release Monday. No injuries were reported among the public or staff. “One firefighter was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons,” Gravelle said. Authorities did not provide further details about the extent of the damage or the specific industrial business affected.
