A 29-year-old man in Sault Ste. Marie was arrested this week on the strength of 13 arrest warrants involving 29 charges. He was arrested Aug. 12 in connection with two vehicle thefts in July. The first on July 8 involved a vehicle stolen from a business in the 1600 block of Trunk Road. “An investigation revealed the accused stole the vehicle from the business and drove it through a closed gate, causing significant damage,” Sault police said in a news release Aug. 13. Crashed into a utility pole “The vehicle was later recovered in the 100 block of Cambridge Place.” Then on July 18, police received a report that another vehicle had been stolen from the 600 block of Wellington Street West. “An investigation revealed the accused stole the vehicle, which had been parked outside of a business, and drove it erratically before crashing into a utility pole in the 0-100 block of St. George’s Avenue West and causing significant damage,” police said. “The accused then exited the vehicle and left the scene before officers arrived.” Other investigations revealed that between March 11 and Aug. 12, the man was responsible for 10 thefts from six different businesses. The total value of items stolen was more than $7,500, police said. Charges include 22 counts of violating probation, two counts of dangerous driving, two counts of vehicle theft and other mischief and theft charges. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
