Remains of murder victim recovered in northwestern Ont.

Ontario Provincial Police have discovered human remains as part of an ongoing investigation into the disappearance and death of a Kenora-area resident.

Mekhi Pelly (Scott), 21, of Grassy Narrows First Nation, was reported missing Oct. 26. Two people are facing murder-related charges in connection with his death.

Pelly’s remains were found Nov. 26 by the OPP emergency response team (ERT) in the Washagamis Bay First Nation area. A post-mortem examination confirmed his identity.

Two people charged

A 24-year-old suspect has been charged with first-degree murder and a 43-year-old suspect was charged with accessory after the fact to murder in connection with his death.

Both suspects from Kenora were scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 4.

The investigation is being conducted by the Kenora OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
