Quebec driver charged with impaired on Highway 11

Ontario Provincial Police have charged one individual following a traffic complaint on Highway 11 last week.

OPP said police received a complaint regarding a vehicle driving aggressively and swerving south of Latchford at about 5 p.m. on Jan. 27.

“Officers located the vehicle shortly thereafter and conducted a traffic stop,” police said in a news release.

Following an investigation, the driver was arrested for impaired and transported to the Temiskaming Detachment for further testing.

As a result, the motorist, a 29-year-old from Senneterre, Que., has been charged with two impaired driving offences – including having a blood alcohol concentration of more than 80.

Additionally, the accused’s driver’s licence was automatically suspended for 90 days and the vehicle involved was towed and impounded for seven days.

The driver was released and is scheduled to appear in court in Haileybury on March 10.

Public reminder against impaired driving

The police service used the incident to emphasize the illegality of impaired driving and to ask for the public’s assistance in keeping roads safe.

“OPP reminds motorists that impaired driving is dangerous and illegal,” said OPP.

“If you suspect an impaired driver, call 911 immediately.”
