The Anishinabek Police Service is hoping the public can help them identify the person who rolled a tire at a passing police cruiser in Sault Ste. Marie earlier this week. The incident took place just before 5:30 a.m. Aug. 18, when an officer was travelling eastbound on Trunk Road in a fully marked APS cruiser. “The cruiser was suddenly struck on the rear door by an object,” police said in a social media post. “Investigation has revealed that an individual standing on the north side of Trunk Road rolled an object (believed to be a tire) into live traffic.” While there were no injuries, police are hoping someone will come forward to help them find the person responsible. Anyone with information or dash cam or surveillance footage from Trunk Road between Queensgate Boulevard and Fournier Road between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. is asked to call police at 705-946-4196. Members of the public can report suspicious activity in the community using the online reporting tool. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or online. Tips that lead to successful investigations and resolutions may be eligible for cash rewards.
