Parry Sound police arrest fourth teen suspect in crime spree that damaged several stolen vehicles

Officers with the West Parry Sound detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 15-year-old in connection with an ongoing stolen vehicle investigation.

The youth is the fourth young person charged in connection with a series of stolen vehicle cases between 11:15 p.m. on Feb. 5 and 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 6.

In addition to a new suspect, police said they discovered three more vehicles had been stolen and crashed, bringing the total to seven. The four teen suspects have now been charged with 68 offences.

Dozens of charges

“As the investigation progressed, officers linked three additional stolen vehicle occurrences to the accused parties,” the OPP said in a news release Feb. 18.

“Police have now recovered a total of seven stolen vehicles, several of which were involved in collisions. To date, 68 charges have been laid in relation to this investigation.”

The 15-year-old from Parry Sound has been charged with three counts of vehicle theft, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime and mischief over $5,000.

The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 25.

Three other suspects -- a 14-year-old from McDougall, a 16-year-old from Parry Sound and a 15-year-old from Georgian Bay – have already been charged with offences including stunt driving and driving without a licence.

The suspects can’t be named because they are under the age of 18.
