Pair face charges after northern Ont. traffic stop

Two individuals from West Nipissing are facing multiple charges following a traffic stop conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police earlier this week.

The incident occurred shortly after noon on Monday, when OPP initiated the stop of a vehicle on Queen Street.

Police said the driver was taken into custody for operating the vehicle with a suspended licence. Further, the passenger was also arrested at the scene.

“The passenger of the vehicle was arrested for damaging the vehicle,” OPP said in a news release.

Police said that the registered owner of the vehicle had reported that it had been taken without their consent.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 49-year-old man, was charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent, driving while under suspension, operation of a vehicle while prohibited and failing to properly wear a seatbelt. While the passenger, a 30-year-old woman, was charged with mischief and failing to comply with a probation order.

Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court in North Bay on Nov. 6.
