The Thunder Bay Police Service has laid manslaughter charges against two people in connection with the death of a woman who was injured in an assault on Dawson Road last week. Initial response and victim’s death According to police, officers were dispatched to a business in the 1000 block of Dawson Road on the afternoon of Aug. 15 following reports of an assault. A search of the area led to an injured female being located and transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Major Crime Unit then became involved in the investigation. Police said the victim died as a result of her injuries on Aug. 17. Police have not identified the victim nor have they disclose any details about the circumstances leading to her death. Suspects charged According to police, one suspect was located and arrested on Aug. 18. “Further investigation led to a second suspect being located and arrested on Aug. 19,” police said in a news release. As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old and a 30-year-old man, both from Thunder Bay, are each facing a manslaughter charge. Both accused were remanded into custody following their first court appearance and have a future court date. “Investigators believe there is no risk to public safety at this time,” police said in a previous news release. Investigation ongoing “The investigation into the matter remains ongoing,” police said.
