A routine early morning traffic stop last week led to the seizure of nearly half a kilogram of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of almost $50,000. Ontario Provincial Police say that officers with the Kenora detachment pulled over a vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act offence shortly after 2 a.m. on Feb. 11. “Police observed cannabis packaging inside the vehicle and conducted a search under the Cannabis Control Act,” the OPP said in a news release. During the search, police seized drugs believed to be 393.58 grams of crack cocaine and 80.55 grams of cocaine. “The seized drugs have a combined street value of approximately $47,413,” OPP said. Officers also seized a cellphone, unmarked tobacco, open and sealed cannabis packages and drug trafficking paraphernalia. A 35-year-old man from Winnipeg has been charged with drug trafficking, speeding and failing to surrender his driver’s licence. The accused was held in custody pending a court appearance.
