OPP investigate loose wheel reports on Highway 17, commercial driver charged

Ontario Provincial Police charged a commercial truck driver after a loose wheel was reported on Highway 17 west of Dryden on Saturday afternoon.

Police said they received reports about the vehicle and located it shortly after.

“A responding officer quickly located the vehicle west of Dryden and conducted a traffic stop,” OPP said in a social media post.

An inspection revealed that only three wheel nuts were securing the wheel. The driver was charged with multiple offences under the Highway Traffic Act and taken out of service.

Authorities did not release the driver’s name or specific charges.

CTV News has requested additional information from police about the incident, but those messages have not yet been returned.

OPP reminded the public to report unsafe road conditions.
